HOW TO MEASURE YOUR FOOT LENGTH

Step 1: Place a sheet of paper on the floor and step onto it.
Step 2: Draw a line in front of your longest toe and another line behind your heel.
Step 3: Use a ruler to measure the distance between the lines you drew on the sheet of paper. Consult our handy chart above to match your measurement to the corresponding size.
TIP: Measure while wearing the type of socks you would usually wear with our boots or shoes for a more accurate measurement.

SIZING FAQS

The size of our boots, shoes and sandals can differ between silhouettes, but we’d say that most run true to size. If you’re looking for a wider fit with a more rounded toe, we’d suggest looking at men’s and unisex styles. Or if you want a narrower, more tapered fit, try our women’s styles. Customer reviews are always a good way to get a sense on fit, too. You can find them on most product pages.

Women’s styles will generally say “Women’s” in the name and will have a slimmer and more tapered shape. Men’s and Unisex styles have a more rounded fit and wider footbed shape.
Tip: Unisex styles can be identified by the size selection on the style's product page. If a size is Unisex, both Men’s and Women's sizing options appear.

Our shoes and boots are available in whole sizes only. You can use our size chart to find your best fit.

If you are in between sizes, we recommend going down to the nearest size. If your footwear is feeling roomy, but the size down is too small, you can customize the fit by adding an insole, which adds half a size, or by attaching heel grips. These products are available from DM’s directly.

Our footwear should feel overall snug at first and be roomier inside the toe box. You should have a little space at the heel, depending on what’s comfortable. Keep in mind, the boot or shoe should still stay in place when you walk. This will help to prevent blisters.
The stiffer the leather, the longer it will take to break in your boots or shoes. You can find an overview of our leather variations here in our leather guide. If you are still breaking in your boots or shoes, give it some time; it will all be worth it.

Our Unisex and Men’s standard fit footwear offers a wider and rounded toe shape, making it ideal for individuals with broader feet.
Our Women’s standard fit styles will fit slightly smaller, and fit closer to traditional Women’s sizing. These styles have a narrower footbed.
For example, if the 1460 Women’s Smooth Leather Lace-Up Boots feel too narrow, we suggest trying the 1460 Smooth Leather Lace-Up Boots in unisex sizing. Many people find that it offers that extra bit of space they need for the best fit.

Sizes will be marked inside the tongue of your original Dr. Martens and on the inside the ankle strap of most of our sandal styles. Remember that Made in England Styles will have the UK size listed and not the US size.
